Pop star Taylor Swift broke her silence Sunday on politics by pledging to support two Democratic congressional candidates in Tennessee in mid-term elections next month.
In an article on Instagram, Swift – who emigrated to Tennessee as a teenager – announced her intention to vote for former Tennessee Governor Phil Bredsen for the US Senate and Representative Jim Cooper in his re-election bid for 5th congressional district of Tennessee.
"In the past, I have been reluctant to publicly express my political views, but because of a number of events in my life and around the world in the last two years, I have a very different view of that right now. Swift said.
Saying that she supports the rights of LGBTQ people and opposes systemic racism and all other forms of discrimination, Swift said that she could not support Bredsen's opponent, the Republican Republican Marsha Blackburn.
"Although in the past and I want to continue to vote for women in office, I can not support Marsha Blackburn," she said. "His Congressional vote record mugs and terrifies me."
Last year, Swift won a civil action against David Mueller, a Denver radio personality, after claiming to have sexually assaulted her. Swift did not sue until Mueller said in another statement that the pop star's mother and a member of his management team had him fired.
Mueller had asked for $ 3 million in a lawsuit that was dismissed on August 11. Swift received a symbolic dollar three days later.
In a statement at the time, Swift said she was considering helping other victims of sexual assault to defend themselves in court.
"I recognize the privilege I enjoy in life, in society and in my ability to assume the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this," he said. she declared. "My hope is to help those whose voice is to be heard."
In the past, Swift had been trapped by political silence – the Guardian had suggested last year to become an "emissary for Trump's values" – but on Sunday, fans protested his decision to end the situation.
"Politics just ruined your career," tweeted a. "You chose the wrong side. We will never get back together. Not followed.
"Respect yourself, shut up and sing!" another tweet. "I guess you're more pop than country now, anyway, your country fans are going to be disappointed, you're now at Katie Perry."
