YAOUNDE (Reuters) – Cameroon opposition candidate Maurice Kamto on Monday declared his victory in presidential elections, saying he had "achieved his goal" in Sunday's vote and called on President Paul Biya. to transfer power peacefully.

"I invite the outgoing president to organize a peaceful transfer of power in a peaceful manner," he said at a press conference in Yaoundé, giving no results to justify his request.

Kamto, who heads the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), was greeted by shouts of supporters during his announcement.
