Brooks Koepka named PGA Tour 2018 Player after winning two major titles

The new season of the PGA Tour has already begun, but there remains one last deal of the 2017-18 season: naming the player of the year.

The race is largely decided since the conclusion of the PGA Championship at Bellerive, when Brooks Koepka escaped from the pack to win his third major championship and his second of the 2018 major season.

This season, Koepka has joined the ranks of the elite as the fifth American with three major victories before the age of 29 and just the fifth player to win the American Open and the PGA Championship in the same season. This is particularly impressive given that Koepka missed nearly three months of action, including the 2018 Masters, while he was recovering from a wrist injury.

"Brooks has brought a new form of athletics to the PGA Tour, and we have seen the results this year with his historic season at the major championships and a top-10 finish at the FedExCup," said Tuesday the commissioner of the PGA Tour. "These feats have been accomplished despite the lack of considerable time due to an injury, which demonstrates his work ethic and perseverance throughout the season."

The PGA Tour's year-round player is decided by a poll of PGA Tour players. Koepka was chosen for the honor this year among Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas.
