The Dyson Airwrap sucks your hair into curls

Two years ago, Dyson used its expertise in pushing the air to create a high-end hair dryer, at a ridiculous cost, but which, in our tests at the end of the day, was the only way to go. At the time, was worth the investment surprisingly. The company today announces its first follow-up of Supersonic: a new styling tool called Airwrap, which replaces the burning metal surfaces of a curling iron, warm air moving through brushes and other accessories much safer.

Until now, we have less than an hour of use of the Airwrap and, although we fear that additional tools are needed to style all types of hair, we are also extremely impressed by what we have seen so far. This gives the impression that he could have some lengths ahead of most other styling products currently available.

The Airwrap styler is very similar to the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. It has the same grip at the bottom of the handle, with a similar arrangement of the buttons facing up. They even do essentially the same thing: blow cold, hot or hot air at different intensities using the V9 digital engine that Dyson originally developed for the Supersonic. However, while the Dyson hair dryer is specifically designed for quick drying of your wicks, the Airwrap offers three types of interchangeable tools designed to style your hair instead.

It's basically a total eruption in a device. Because the unit channels hot air directly through a set of soft, firm or round brush accessories, users do not have to use both hands to juggle a separate brush and hair dryer when they smooth or volumise their hair. And, in the manner of Dyson, the Airwrap brush accessories have been over-designed with an automatic switching mechanism that changes the direction of the airflow according to the tension exerted by the user's hair on the monitor. brush hairs. The end result is a flow of warm air that always matches the user's hair direction and movements, creating more volume or a more straight finish, depending on one of the three brush heads used.

The most innovative feature of the Airwrap, however, is a set of 30- and 40-millimeter barrel attachments designed to be used as curling irons. But instead of using metal plates that heat enough to melt the hair (or adjacent skin) if you're not careful, the Airwrap gun mounts direct hot air through a series of aerodynamic vents that create a phenomenon called Coanda effect.

In simple terms, this creates an air cyclone that wraps the barrel with enough pressure to suck the hair around the barrel, creating curls when the hair is dried with the hot stream. However, the Coanda effect only works in one direction. Dyson therefore includes two versions of each body that wrap the hair in a different direction, creating mirrored curls on each side of your head. However, in our experience, the two curlers create a superb look with agitation.

Dyson stopped in the offices of Gizmodo to show us how the product works. We will admit that we were impressed when we tried it on quite typical white woman hair. The hair was instantly wrapped around the barrel and our model, video producer Eleanor Fye, had princess curls in less than ten minutes. The attachment of the brush seemed equally magical, quickly smoothing his thick, long and wavy hair giving them just a little volume. Impressive because Eleanor has a lot of hair.

Dyson refused to style our second model, which has black hair, especially type 4B. This means that she has very thick hair with very kinky curls. Black hair usually requires the application of more heat than white hair if you want to get smooth hair. Over time, high heat can cause hair damage, so a product like Airwrap seems, on paper, as a great option. It straightens the hair and produces large stylized curls with less heat. Unfortunately, Airwrap, according to Dyson, may require additional tools and time to reproduce the same look on type 4 hair, and the company did not feel comfortable styling its hair given the limited time of which we had and the lack of other tools.

This leaves us with an enigma because according to all other accounts, Airwrap seems to be a very magical product – the kind that most people with a lot of hair will covet or even invest in. We were impressed when we saw it in action, but we need to test it on many other types of hair before we can say that it is as magical as it sounds.
