SALT LAKE CITY – If you've been walking through downtown Salt Lake recently, you've probably noticed electric scooters everywhere.
Bird Rides Inc., one of two companies that recently brought electric scooters to Salt Lake City, provides access to scooters without dock via a mobile app. Through the app you can unlock the scooter and pay for your ride. The fare in Salt Lake City is $ 0.15 per minute, and you go up with $ 1 to start, according to the Bird website. Once you have finished driving, you park and lock the scooter via the app.
Last week, Bird announced a new version of its scooter: Bird Zero.
The new scooter is designed to "meet the demands of Rideshare 2.0 by offering riders more battery life for longer battery life, better lighting for increased visibility and increased durability for a longer life," according to a news release. Bird press.
The extended life of the battery lasts 60% longer than that of the original scooters. The press release also said the scooter would be equipped with stronger, more robust tires to "provide stable driving and greater durability on a variety of floor surfaces".
A digital display is also added to the new model. The display will show the speed of the scooter and the life of the battery, according to the company's website.
According to Mackenzie Long, spokesperson for Bird's public relations division, Bird Zero scooters are expected to be marketed in participating cities in the coming weeks.

There is no release date set for Bird Delivery, but you can get a priority placement by signing up on the Bird's website waiting list.
The electric scooter company currently operates in many major American cities including Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Portland. Bird began offering scooter service in Salt Lake in June, according to the Associated Press.
