Breaking: Dustin Poirier forced to leave Nate Diaz to fight at UFC 230 following injury

Just as we thought the UFC 230 had been saved by the addition of Daniel Cormier, who defended his heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis, Dustin Poirier was forced to quit his fight against Nate Diaz for an undisclosed injury .

ESPN's Brett Okamoto has the word:

A heartbreaking blow.

Diaz and Poirier both lobbied for the promotion to give them the title of the Pay Per View (PPV) event, scheduled to take place Nov. 3, 2018 in Madison Square Garden in New York, NY, but the president of the UFC, Dana White slammed the door on this possibility.

The UFC 230 gave the promotion the least headache as the company struggled to find a suitable lead, even booking an inexplicable title for the Flyweight title between Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubank. But after "DC" and "Black Beast" agreed to take the tango after three weeks of notice, the fight was finally wiped out.

Which was music in the ears of Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Despite the hiccups, the rest of the event featured several interesting matches, including Luke Rockhold against Chris Weidman, Israel Adesanya against Derek Brunson and Ronaldo Souza with David Branch.

Although no one knows if Diaz will remain on the map, UFC has just over three weeks to try to find a substitute enough captivating to convince the player Stockton to play ball. Want to make suggestions?

Here is a start.
