The last time we arrived at Team Flash, they had just defeated the Thinker and were enjoying the birth of Joe and Cecile's daughter when Jessica Parker Kennedy's Mystery Girl broke the festivities with a bombshell: she's actually the future daughter of Barry and Iris, Nora West-Allen. and she made a big mistake. If you've watched the whole third uneven season, then you've probably seen that turn come. Nevertheless, this opens up a world of exciting possibilities for the show and presents a new challenge for the team, especially for Barry and Iris. Of course, we are just one episode of season 5, but based on the first, it seems that this season can live up to this promise. "Nora" is a fun and powerful start to the season that seems to be fueled by the palpable joy and bubbling of Kennedy's performance, and it has left me excited to see where the season unfolds.
"Nora" picks up exactly where we stopped in the final. Almost everyone at Joe's is speechless after Nora's revelation – with the exception of Cisco, which reduces the need for alcohol, and Ralph, who now realizes that time travel is one thing. (Ralph discovering the existence of time travel and multiverse in this episode has brought me so much joy.) Nora moves in the room with an air familiarity, because she knows almost everyone from the future and does not loses no time in revealing the big mistake she's made: in helping Barry save the day in the finale, she's cheated on the timeline (like father, such girl) and can not go back in the future. She needs the help of Team Flash.
Even in her first scenes, Kennedy, which is a regular series of the season, feels like a great addition to the series. It infuses almost all of Nora's replicas with a sense of infectious wonderment, and it's hard not to slip with Nora, who is fascinated by almost everything. Of course, Nora learned about all the achievements of Team Flash, but she is now here and in fact the direct experience, like the addition of Barry, the tachyon stimulator, who was meeting Supergirl for the first time. And in her excitement, she also lets out some details about the future: there is a Flash museum, King Shark and Grodd are fighting, and she knows Lighting Lad.
Having Nora here presents an interesting quagmire for her parents. Barry is determined to send it back in the future because he is (hypocritical) worried about the damage his presence has caused to the timeline – especially after a meta that absorbs kinetics, named Gridlock manages to escape because Nora distracted her during the battle. Iris, meanwhile, is very eager to know her daughter. Alas, Nora does not feel the same, for reasons we will learn soon.
The team tries to use Thawne's tachyon booster to increase Nora's speed so she can go home, but that fails because, as Legends discovered when testing her blood off screen she has negative tachyons running through her body. These negative tachyons prevent it from entering the Speed Force (you do not hate it when it happens?). Nora is stuck here until Team Flash finds a way to compensate for the negative tachyons with positives – or, more precisely, until Nora stops flooding her body with negative tachyons. That should not be a total surprise, but Nora lied.
Barry realizes that Nora is not completely truthful with them and confronts her with her suspicions, which leads to another bombshell of the future: Although Nora has spent all her life with Iris, this is the first time that She meets Barry, who was missing for 25 years after his disappearance in the 2024 crisis when she was a baby. All of this strikes Barry like a brick, because he had just shared with Iris his concern that he was going to miss all of Nora's firsts and it turns out that's what he really did.
