LeBron James told reporters at a Los Angeles Lakers training session on Tuesday how his two sons aged 14 and 11 are "ripe" when he revealed that he and his wife even shared wine with them. James quickly added that the decision to allow his children to consume wine was "for me" and not "for mom".

The 33-year-old NBA superstar, in his first season with the Lakers, was seen asking if he had better sensitized his young teammates to "pop culture." "Not really," James replied, explaining that "the same things" his team's players are listening to or watching are also appreciated by his sons.

"I understand everything at home with my 14 years and my 11 years," said James. When asked what about his children, James said, "It does not say anything, it's just the moment, that's all.

"I have very mature children aged 14 and 11," he said. "My 14 and 11 year olds are drinking wine."

"Really?", Said a reporter. "Yes, they are mature," James said before joking. "They will also drive next week."

When asked if his children preferred "white or red," James replied, "Whichever father or mother you like."

"Put it on me, however, do not put it on mom," he added. "Put it on dad, put it on dad."

James and his wife Savannah have three children: LeBron "Bronny" James Jr., 14 years old and very promising in basketball. Bryce, 11 years old; and a three-year-old girl, Zhuri. The NBA's four-time MVP has stood out in recent years for its growing interest in wine, and in an article published on social media in August (via SB Nation), he presented at his home six open bottles with a combined value greater than $ 3,000.

In some cultures, such as in France, it is relatively common for parents or other family members to share small amounts of wine with children during meals. A common argument in favor of this practice is that it removes the forbidden fruit aspect of alcohol consumption, helping young people to remain moderate in their consumption as they age.

Researchers at Penn State University and University College London announced in 2017 (via The Guardian) that a study of 10,000 British children born at the turn of the millennium revealed that at age 14, half of them had reported having tried more than a sip of alcohol, compared to one in seven three years earlier. The lead author of the study, however, stated that "although parents of socially advantaged children may believe that allowing them to drink will teach them responsible use or that they will even be able to vaccinate them against dangerous drinking. alcohol, there is little research to support these ideas "

The UK's National Health Service, where children aged 16 and 17 are allowed to drink beer, wine or cider at a meal accompanied by an adult, informs parents that if their children are to consume alcohol, they should not do it. until they are at least 15 years old.

Some other recent studies have shown that youth are victims of social harms, such as predilections for excessive alcohol consumption, as well as adverse effects on the development of the brain and other vital organs, due to no longer be allowed to drink small amounts of alcohol during adolescence. However, it is not always clear if the teenagers who drink the abuse would have done it anyway, regardless of the advice received from their parents.

For his part, James said earlier this month that he had recently dropped the wine for two weeks while he was preparing his inaugural season with the Lakers. When asked how he felt about this diet, he replied, "M made me want more wine."
