The Supreme Court of Great Britain stated that a bakery owned by a Christian family was not discriminatory against a homosexual customer when it refused to make a cake in favor of same-sex marriage.

Ashers Baking Co. in Northern Ireland refused in 2014 to make an iced cake with the characters of Sesame Street, Bert and Ernie, wearing the slogan "Support Gay Marriage". The owners argued that they could not put messages on their products that contradicted their Christian beliefs.

Judge Brenda Hale said on Wednesday that their objection related to the message on the cake, not the personal characteristics of the client. She stated that although refusing to serve because of her sexual orientation is "deeply humiliating and contrary to human dignity", "this is not what happened in this case".
