According to the Henley Passport Index 2018, Japan now has the most powerful passport on the planet, a key to visa-free travel to more destinations than Singapore and Germany.

Japanese citizens have recently obtained visa-free access to Myanmar, which limits to 190 access to destinations without a visa or upon arrival. The Singapore passport, which once held the top spot in the index, has access to 189.

Third tied: Germany, South Korea and France.

The US passport fell to fifth place with 186 slots, behind Denmark, Finland, Italy, Sweden and Spain. The United States and the United Kingdom, now in fifth place, were the most powerful passports of 2015.

The United Arab Emirates has moved up the list of the most numerous places on the list in recent years, from 62 in 2006 to 21 today. An Emirati passport makes it possible to go to 161 destinations.
