XXXTentacion having won the best soul / R & B album at the American Music Awards tonight (October 9) for his 17 album, his mother Cleopatra Bernard took the stage to accept the award on behalf of her son.
"I'm so nervous, guys," admitted Bernard on reaching the stage after being introduced by presenter Kane Brown. After some encouragement from the public, she approached the podium to give a short speech on behalf of her son, born Jahseh Onfroy, who died at age 20 in June after being shot.
"I am honored to accept this award on behalf of my son," she began. "I would like to thank the AMA, its fans and all those who made this possible.Thank you guys, I appreciate it." Stifling, she left the stage from there.
XXXTentacion is also nominated for Best New Artist at this year's AMA.
