While Odell Beckham insists that all is well for his teammates, should we really believe it?
In an interview with ESPN aired last Sunday, Odell Beckham Jr. received a series of controversial statements. Beckham, along with Lil 'Wayne and Josina Anderson, openly criticized the Giants' offensive ploy.
Of course, Beckham's comments were not very favorable to the media and certainly not with his coach, Pat Shurmur.
At the Sunday press conference following the Giants' last-minute loss to the Panthers, Shumur sent Beckham himself any questions about Beckham. Although Beckham apologized to his teammates, he does not fear a conflict between him and the team. According to Beckham, everything in the team is kosher.
"Yes, I think we all understand each other," Beckham said. "As I said, there is nothing that can happen between my brothers, my teammates. It's something that will bring us closer. I felt very close as a team on Sunday and that's the way we have to play. That's how we fight.
"Nobody here likes to lose. We are all tired of losing. We want to change this culture, this atmosphere, no matter what it is, because it is a place that gives us a lot of pride and we want to be proud of what we show and do all these things. "
Beckham's comments raise two main problems. First, the Giants rely on Beckham to be a leader, just as they rely on his salary to reflect his performance on the field. Second, when the comments were made, the Giants were only a quarter of the NFL season. Although things do not seem as sunny as he and perhaps the Giants have predicted, the season, even after the defeat against the Panthers last Sunday, is still young.
Given Beckham's historical behavior, it's hard to believe that his Giants teammates are tired of his antics. The media is a powerful tool if used properly, and perhaps none of the Giants players will want to pour gas on an already bad fire, so it would be better not to refute Beckham's claims. But it's hard to believe that the giants were not taken aback by his comments and Beckham's behavior as a whole.
In the end, we can only trust what Beckham is saying at the moment. Hopefully, this whole race will make the Giants change season before it's too late.
