GREAT RAPIDS, Mich. – A disturbing 911 call was heard Wednesday at a preliminary hearing for a Michigan couple accused of killing their child.
Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari face charges of murder for the death of their 10-month-old daughter Mary, who was reportedly starving.
At the 911 call, Welch informs the dispatcher that one of his children is dead. When the dispatcher asks why he thinks that, he answers, "I have no idea, we woke up and she died."
The dispatcher then asks Welch what he is observing and says that the child is not breathing and there is no heartbeat.
Then the dispatcher asks Welch how long he has found Mary and he replied "about an hour and a half, I called my lawyer … to ask him what I could do best, and they said to wait until they're here to call the police … I was expecting a lawyer. "
In the appeal, Welch says that he put Mary to bed at 3 pm. the day before, and we went to see her around 10 am the next day. The dispatcher again asked about the delay and then asked if Welch thought the child was beyond any help when he found it.
"Oh yes," Welch told the dispatcher. "She was dead like a doornail."
Earlier, the couple told police that the child was sick, but they did not seek medical help from Mary for religious reasons and feared child protection services. They also stated that they did not trust the medical services and that the couple was aware that their weight was low for at least one month before their death.
The two men were sent back to the circuit court for a trial after Wednesday's hearing.
