Lady Gaga, the Hollywood star, has arrived!
Unlike Ally, the shy and insecure singer, she plays alongside Bradley Cooper in A star is bornGaga, 32, born Stefani Germanotta, always thought that she was destined for greatness.
PEOPLE's new cover fits into its often difficult path to success – and happiness. "What puzzled me about Ally was that it was not what I was when I started," Gaga said recently. PEOPLE. "When I wanted to become a singer and decided that I was really going to hit the sidewalk and try to do it, I really believed in myself. His vulnerability has intrigued me.

In 2008, when the hits "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" released his first album to success. Fame made of her a well known name, few people were aware of Gaga's struggle to get there.
"I was being bullied and I was laughing about having big dreams," she recalls later of her years in the elite private private school that "I was in. she attended. Being excluded has had harmful consequences, pushing her to the act.
"I was such a bad boy … an exciting nightmare," she explained.

Abandoning her studies at New York University in 2005, Gaga reached an agreement with her father that, if things did not go well for her musical career, she would return. She quickly landed a record deal – and then lost it in a year.

At the time, "it ruined his life," says friend Brendan Jay Sullivan, who met her in the early 2000s and wrote the 2013 memoir. Rivington was ours: Lady Gaga, the Lower East Side and the first of our lives.
Her father did not force her to go back to school and she continued to present her music and performances at any stage she would be at.
But "she was not taken seriously," Sullivan says. "We've heard people say," You're not pretty enough for a pop star. "And not behind her back either: face to her."
Everything changed once it became Gaga, a name based on Queen's song "Ga Ga Radio".

His first producer, and later his boyfriend, Rob Fusari, who witnessed the creative transformation, said that when he had heard her sing for the first time, "it was like watch the electricity bounce off the walls.
To play Ally, Gaga recently told PEOPLE that she had to return "further in my childhood, in my high school years".
"That's where I went. . . to be vulnerable, to be my authentic self, "she said.
