Winning the first game of the National League championship series Friday night was important for the Milwaukee Brewers, who were looking to quickly take advantage of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 6-0 win against Miller on Friday night at Miller Park was the 12th in a row for the Brewers, including the regular season. And 12 is a magic number for fans who want a free hamburger from George Webb, a Wisconsin chain of restaurants that has long vowed to provide free hamburgers when the team wins 12 straight times.
George Webb opened his first "hamburger parlor" in 1948 and, at one point, predicted that the Brewers, then a minor league team, would win 12 straight wins and promise free burgers at the right time. But that was never the case, any more than when the Milwaukee Braves brought the major leagues to Wisconsin.
The Brewers had a series of 12 consecutive wins on April 19, 1987. Three days later, restaurants offered 168,194 burgers, according to George Webb's website.
Thirty-one years later, the Brewers have started again. We do not know how much George Webb will sell this time.
The distribution of hamburgers will be Thursday, over a period of four hours, announced the channel shortly after Friday night's victory.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said before the first game he knew that a quick start to the playoffs was not the only thing at stake.
"Who knew we would go so far and that the most important stress in this game would be George Webb's burgers?" Counsell, who was in the stands when the series of matches reached 12 games in 1987, while his father was working in the team's office at the time.
The channel has been amused with Counsell's comment via his Twitter account.

"It's hard to believe that this has never happened since, I guess it's a very good series," Counsell said. "But certainly everyone can talk about it, and free hamburgers are free hamburgers, and I know you'll all be there."
