The San Francisco 49ers apologized Friday for leaving Colin Kaepernick out of an online photo gallery celebrating the team's history against the Green Bay Packers.
San Francisco and Green Bay will meet Monday night for the 67th episode of a series dating back to 1950, which includes many memorable playoff games. The 49ers, recognizing the historic importance of the match, posted on their website a photo gallery containing images of the many confrontations of the franchise with the Packers.
Shortly after, they had to apologize for a flagrant omission – perhaps intentional, perhaps unintentional -.
The gallery presents 49ers of all kinds
There are now 51 pictures from 51 years after the Niners added two Kaepernicks on Friday. Previously, there was probably 49 – a nice symmetry with the nickname of the team.
Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice and Steve Young, Terrell Owens and Andre Carter are among 51 snapshots. There were less known names, such as Tyronne Drakeford, Kevan Barlow and Jeff Garcia. There were a lot of more modern photos, featuring players such as Alex Smith. There were even current Niners – Garrett Celek and Bradley Pinion.
The goal, it seemed, was to highlight some of the greatest moments of the franchise against Green Bay. This made the exclusion of Kaepernick more obvious.
Some of Kaepernick's best performances were won against Green Bay
The best of Kaepernick was achieved in 2012 and 2013. And his most magical performance may have occurred in a January 2013 NFC division playoff match against the Packers. Kaepernick had 444 all-purpose yards – 263 in the air, 181 on the ground – and four touchdowns in total. He beat Aaron Rodgers, his greatest contemporary of the NFC, with a 45-31 victory.
A year later, Kaepernick collected 412 yards and three touchdowns in an opening win against Green Bay. The 49ers again met the Packers in a clash with another character, this time at Lambeau. Kaepernick once again got the best of Rodgers, scoring 325 yards from the scrum and leading a winning shot that culminated with a field goal for Phil Dawson at the end of the allotted time.
The gallery featured images of Michael Crabtree, Mike Iupati, Patrick Willis, Vernon Davis, Justin Smith, Perrish Cox, Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin, NaVorro Bowman, Jonathan Goodwin, Tarell Brown, Anthony Davis, Alex Boone and others. Special crew … and, initially, none of Kaep.
The declaration of the 49ers
The gallery has since been modified to include two pictures of Kaepernick. In addition to the amendment, the 49ers issue the following statement Friday:
"Unfortunately, there were a handful of obvious shortcomings in this gallery posted by our website team and we appreciate that they are brought to our attention. The 49er organization has tremendous respect and gratitude for the contributions Colin has made to our team over the years. We have good memories of these games and this should have been posted on our website. This oversight does not adequately reflect the appreciation that our ownership and this team have for Colin. "

Kaepernick remains unsigned, but 49ers have backed it
Since the 49ers split from Kaepernick after the 2016 season – and although dozens of dreaded QBs took pictures of the NFL in his absence – the 30-year-old has not played any football matches .
After Kaepernick knelt during the national anthem that season to protest against racial injustice and police brutality, the franchise first supported him. That amounted to his $ 1 million contribution to promotion and equality programs.
Friday's new photo gallery was the first sign of an anti-Kaepernick sentiment within the organization. Several photo galleries posted on the team's website last season now include the quarterback.
