In Howard County, thousands of people seek to cure breast cancer

HOWARD COUNTY, MD – WBFF – Thousands of people dressed in pink came to participate in the 2018 Susan G. Komen Maryland Healing Run in Howard County.

The annual 5km run around Columbia Gateway raises funds for national breast cancer research, as well as for local screenings and treatments.

Breast cancer survivors, family members and community support groups were present.

"It's honestly, and I said it a thousand times, the greatest sorority you never want to be separated from," said Karen Stark, an 18-month-old breast cancer survivor.

"The most important thing that people can do is self-review," Stark said. "The mammograms will make the base and give you information but your self-examination, you do it all the time, you will notice this subtle difference."

According to Komen Maryland, a woman in the United States will die as a result of breast cancer every 30 minutes.

The organization hopes to raise $ 900,000 to help reduce the current number of deaths from breast cancer by 50% by 2026.
