ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Wisconsin needed a solid full match to lighten the load on its stronger defense at Saturday's Michigan Stadium.
The Badgers' pass attack dropped the ball.
Michigan eventually defeated the No. 10 ranked Badgers and the # 13 Wolverines slid to a 38-13 win in front of 111,360 on Saturday.
The Badgers' defense was undermined from the start. The defensive Isaiahh Loudermilk was declared absent Thursday because of an ankle injury and the starting safety of D & C Dixon did not play after undergoing warm-ups before the game to test her leg injured.
Dixon was not featured in the injury report this week after being injured while he was defending a late pass game in the fourth quarter against Nebraska. He said Monday that he was confident of being able to play.
UW already knew that he had to play in the first half without the other starter, Scott Nelson, after being sent off for targeting the Cornhuskers.
To add more problems to the secondary player, cornerback Faion Hicks also did not start after being absent from the injury report during the week. Hicks, who had been thumb injured in recent weeks, was reported injured in the leg after the match started.
That left UW with two rookies, safety Reggie Pearson and cornerback Rachad Wildgoose at Dixon and Nelson.
Pearson was playing his first university game after suffering a left-sided injury in practice before the start of the season. Wildgoose got its first significant minutes last week.
Nelson came back in the second half to finally leave the game in the third quarter, injured his left leg. Pearson was also touched.
Inexperienced high school was put to the test as Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson completed five passes for a total of 46 yards in the Wolverines' first practice.
But the Badgers' defense stiffened and managed to hold Patterson in third and sixth places, limiting him to a 1-meter win over a scrum. Michigan kicker Quinn Nordin then missed a 41-yard field goal.
Patterson was unleashed in the first game of the second quarter, although it was not the fault of the defensive backs of UW. Junior linebacker Zack Baun dropped sharply in play, and Patterson skirted the edge and ran 81 yards on the sideline to win the Badgers' 5.
Karan Higdon carried the ball in the next two games, crossing the goal line on a 2-yard run for the first score of the match.

Taylor had a 9-yard run after UW took over at 10:01. But UW quarterback Alex Hornibrook recovered his own fumble in the next game and was sacked for a 9-yard third-and-third loss.

Hornibrook has not been able to create a foul to help Badgers get back into the game. He pitched incomplete on his three assists in the third quarter.
Chris Evans, Higdon and Patterson were able to find holes in UW's defense, combining 59 yards rushing on a 63-yard run that ended with a Nordin shot at goal with 11:36 to go. in the match.
Then Michigan ended all hope for UW when Wolverines' Lavert Hill caught a wandering pass from Hornibrook and walked in the end zone to score 21 yards and lead 31-7.
To add insult to injury, Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey ran for a 44-yard touchdown in his first game after replacing Patterson.
Hornibrook finished 7 of 20 or 100 yards and two interceptions. His first double of the second half was marked by a desperate push from fourth scorer Jake Ferguson with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter. He finally found A.J. Taylor for a 3-yard touchdown with 3:47 to go.
