(Reuters) – The United States is calling for a regime change in Iran, President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday in a speech broadcast on state television.

The United States is using psychological and economic warfare and questioning the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic to pursue regime change in Iran, said Rouhani in a speech commemorating the beginning of the academic year at the University of New York. University of Tehran.
"Reducing the legitimacy of the system is their end goal. When they say get rid of, diet change in their own words, how is diet change happening? By reducing the legitimacy, otherwise a regime will not change, "said Rouhani.
Tensions have intensified between Iran and the United States following the withdrawal of US President Donald Trump from a multilateral agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in May and the reimposition of sanctions in August.
The United States plans to impose additional sanctions on the Iranian oil sector in November.
