COLUMBIA, SC – Texas A & M have won three consecutive games of the Southeast Conference Conference, including two outside Kyle Field, but the Aggies (5-2, 3-1) have sorely dominated.
Save for time of ownership – A & M is absolutely dominant in this category.
The Aggies more than doubled the time spent in South Carolina on Saturday in the Aggies 26-23 win (41: 29-18: 31), continuing the trend toward the bottom ball under the freshman coach. Jimbo Fisher.
"We used a little bit," said Will Muschamp, Gamecocks' coach, who claimed his defense was on the court too long against A & M.
The Aggies defeated Arkansas 24-17 at AT & T Stadium and beat Kentucky 20-14 in overtime on the last two weekends, to move forward with the three-point win. Saturday, and each time, A & M has outsold his opponents in time of possession.
This is a testament to Fisher's attack built on tight ends, side defenders and lethal games – and that helps keep A & M's grassy defense out of the field and cool. Some observations from the fifth consecutive victory of the Aggies on South Carolina in the unannounced battle of the Bonham Trophy:
Jace Sternberger is a hoss
The junior-university transfer and Fisher's first signatory had career highs in catches (seven) and yards (145) against South Carolina. The Gamecocks had no answer for the former Kansas – Kansas? – tight end.
Do not forget Quartney Davis
The former Langham Creek out-of-class player has come a long way in the absence of injured Jhamon Ausbon and has also reached career highs in catches (nine) and yards (127). A & M quarterback, Kellen Mond, said Davis "knew he had to win his matches, and that's what he did tonight". Effectively.
Too much misunderstanding
Fisher knows that the Aggies will not continue to win if they fail as often as against South Carolina. A & M was sentenced to 12 penalties for 117 yards, including defensive backs from Debione Renfro and Donovan Wilson for targeting (the third ejection of this type of Wilson this season).
Fisher said "it's not us" in terms of mistakes, and at least the Aggies have the next two weeks to work on it. They are on holiday this weekend before resuming the SEC game on Oct. 27 in Mississippi State.
Mavens of turnover
In fact, the Aggies are not, they seem just like that after causing two turnovers to South Carolina, doubling the number of turnovers created in the first six games of the season. Cornerback Charles Oliver intercepted a pass from Jake Bentley in the end zone and punter Braden Mann – the bettor? – caused a fumble during a return that special teams managed to recover, as Tyrel Dodson
A & M has now caused four turnovers this season, still last in the SEC, but it's a start. At least the Aggies are hoping.
Helmet Stickers
The Aggies wore stickers on their helmets paying tribute to the areas affected earlier this week by Hurricane Michael – a noble gesture that residents of South Carolina and beyond (mostly Florida) have certainly enjoyed. A & M linebacker Otaro Alaka has described him as "pretty cool" and he is right. A & M equipment manager Matt Watson and his team are warriors in this field.
