The clash between Jon Gruden and Derek Carr with the Oakland Raiders was not as successful as expected. After five games, the Raiders end up with a record of 1-4 and suffer a mixture of blown leads and ugly losses. Apparently, the struggles of the beginning of the year were sufficient for drastic measures to be considered.

As Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports revealed, the Raiders could be about to receive entertaining commercial offers for their well paid quarterback as early as 2019.

In the end, what it means for quarterback Derek Carr, Oakland's second-round pick in 2014, remains to be seen, although it's fair to say that a growing number of GMs suspect that Gruden could receive offers for him too in 2019, especially if Gruden is in a position to write his choice of quarterbacks in the next draft. Khalli Mack, Oakland's first pick in 2014, had already been treated in Chicago on a monster contract before the season, and Gruden should not stop there.

Carr's up and down game, Gruden's displeasure

Although Carr has achieved 1,641 yards with 71.3% of her passes this season, the difficulties are obvious. His seven touchdowns are largely overshadowed by eight interceptions, some of which occurred at key moments. In the Los Angeles Chargers defeat in the fifth week, Carr launched an interception from the starting line, which cost the Raiders a chance to return to the game.

Even just before the London Raiders' Week 6 match against the Seattle Seahawks, Gruden's discontent was obvious. As Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal revealed, Gruden was asked how close the Raiders are to turning the corner. His response did not really leave the fans optimistic.

The Gruden-Carr couple was supposed to help the Raiders' attack to flourish, but instead they sometimes splashed on each other. Oakland is ranked 23rd in the NFL with 21.4 points per game. Even though they have an average of 316 yards in the air, this has not resulted in victories.

Something must change, but it seems that the Raiders have a hard time dealing with Carr when everyone knows how hard it can be to find a quarter of a franchise.
