PHOENIX – Police announced that the former mayor of Phoenix, Greg Stanton, had been stolen by a man wielding a hatchet while leaving a restaurant in Phoenix on Saturday night.

Stanton, now a congressional candidate, was reportedly robbed near 12th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Sources told ABC15 investigators that a man with a hatchet had clashed with Stanton as he was leaving Thai Rama at around 20:20. The man asked for money from Stanton, who then threw his wallet on the suspect and went back inside to ask for help.

Police said they searched the area but failed to locate the suspect, who has still not been found. The suspect is described as a white man aged 35 to 40, with black hair, facial hair and a stocky body. The last time we saw him, he wore a shirt with white and brown stripes and jeans.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Stanton's spokesman said that he was in a good mood after the incident. He issued the following statement:

"As I walked towards my car after dinner, a man armed with what appeared to be a hatchet stole me. I was not hurt. I would like to thank the Phoenix Police Service for the very quick reaction of our officers and for handling the case with such professionalism. Although such incidents are scary, I'm not discouraged and I will still be eating at this local restaurant – one of my favorites – later this week. "
