Second-year catcher Cooper Kupp was a Los Angeles Rams star with five touchdowns and 438 receiving yards in the first five weeks. But Kupp appeared to suffer a serious knee injury early in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos after being shot from behind by a gear at the pass.
Kupp was transported off the field and the Rams found it doubtful to come back shortly after leaving. Surprisingly, Kupp did return to the game for the start of the second half. Shortly after, Kupp stayed on the sidelines for the Rams. The FOX sideline reporter said the Rams wanted to use it sparingly. It is difficult to imagine 100%.
The collared tackle was made illegal in 2005 after several players, including Terrell Owens, Steve Smith and Donovan McNabb, were seriously injured during the 2004 season. You do not see them often causing injury, but when even dangerous enough.
Sunday's tackle earned Darian Stewart a 15-yard penalty. At the time of the injury, Kupp had seen a target, but no reception. He did, however, have a carry for 12 yards.
