NOTBC News issued a correction on Sunday for a tweet that falsely claimed that President Trump, Confederate General Robert E. Lee, was "unbelievable".
The tweet arrived a few hours after Trump assailed the newspaper for misleading his audience about what he had said at a rally on Friday night.
CORRECTION: A previous tweet badly identified General President Trump described as "incredible" at a rally in Ohio – it was General Ulysses S. Grant, not General Robert E. Lee., "NBC News' Twitter account said, with a longer clip offering more context.

At this rally in Ohio on Friday, Trump congratulated Grant, who would become president of the United States after the American Civil War, and Lee, calling them "great" generals. But his "unbelievable" comment made reference to Grant, who was at the center of his story.
"So Robert E. Lee was a great general, and Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia, he could not beat Robert E. Lee," said Trump. He later pointed out that Grant was also a "great general" who "stunned everyone" and added the incredible "increment" in speaking of how Grant "drank a little too much".
Trump condemned NBC News in a tweet Sunday morning for his sloppy reporting.
"NBC News totally and deliberately changed the meaning of my story about General Robert E Lee and General Ulysses Grant," he said. "It was actually a tribute to the warrior Grant and the great state he was born in. As usual, dishonest reporting, even the traditional media are embarrassed!"
Trump then thanked NBC News for the correction.
