NORTH HILLS, CA – A bus accident Sunday afternoon in North Hills has left dozens wounded, including four seriously injured, fire officials said. A bus and a vehicle crashed on Interstate 405 around 1 pm, tweeted the Los Angeles Fire Department. The crash caused collisions on both sides of the highway divider.

Firefighters initially reported that 13 patients were to be assessed and at least four of them were severely affected. The agency subsequently updated this number, indicating that about 40 people were assessed and 25 were taken away in ambulances. Three women aged 49, 60 and 88 were in serious condition, as were two men, aged 30 and 69. Three of them had no visible serious injuries but were considered to be in serious condition due to the severity of the accident.

Twenty other patients were transported in fair condition with minor injuries, said firefighters. All patients were transported. The southern part of I-405 remains closed. No flames were reported and no one was physically removed from the vehicles.

At one point, firefighters were evaluating patients on both sides of the highway.
