So ends another season of the Oakland Raiders, sooner than we thought before Khalil Mack's trade and just in time since.
That does not kill all hope for 2019, notice it, but it is certainly not the way to bet. I mean, if you thought that there was a way to avoid the seemingly inevitable performance before the team moved to Nevada, you're probably as delusional as when Jon Gruden came here in February. The turnaround is not yet expected, but it almost certainly does not happen in California.
After being shown both inept and inert in England by losing a bland and unrelenting match against Seattle, 27-3, the Raiders will be allowed to return to this country so that Gruden can begin to develop more serious plans for 2019 and realistic plans for 2020.
From the game itself, there was nothing to summarize because nothing has been accomplished. The busiest attackers were Jalen Richard and Seth Roberts, the offensive line was shredded and the defense allowed 6.2 yards per game (equivalent to 6.8). In other words, nothing has been revealed that has not already been established as a common knowledge.
Fox's Jay Glazer's report that the Raiders were actively looking for Amari Cooper's wide receiver, ethereal (as in most rumors, rarely used and now coldly commotioned), and security, Karl Joseph, as part of this which was elegantly described as "a fire sale" also unsurprisingly. Gruden was brought by the star-eyed owner, Mark Davis, with enough money to feed his family for a thousand years and maintain a constant supply of dynamite for the organization table. There is no rally and 1 to 5 teams no longer require time to prepare. There is no more gelling to do.
The Raiders are the 100th team since 1990 to start a 1-5 season, and only one, the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs, has still rallied to playoff. Specifically, the average final record of these other 98 teams (the New York Giants went from 1 to 5 Thursday night) is 4.6 to 11.4. And you know how hard these six tenths of wins are.
In addition, in the second year after a season with a 1-5 start, 65 of the 96 teams (we do not know where the Giants will meet after the 2018 season, but it's not going to be good) missed the playoffs, but the average recording goes to 7.5.-8.5. It's still not good, but it leaves at least 33% hope for Oakland Raiders fans that the last year in town will not be the same.
Because this here is obviously dark and awful, and that it was a fair and objective evaluation even before quarterback Derek Carr collapsed after being sacked by tackle Jarren Reed in the fourth quarter. 39, one of six sacks against the besieged offensive offensive of Oakland.
Again, none of this should be considered a revelation. Gruden did not come to defend the status quo, nor to strengthen it, and he showed his hand when he treated Mack from drafts. Nobody can pretend to be hurt.
It's just that the Raiders came back to Oakland and played the equivalent of 23 consecutive seasons from 6 to 10, and now they promise almost two more from 6 to 10 before fighting overseas. Rarely has a team done less in less time to attract a more eager fan base.
Gruden can also start shoveling the garage. Cooper may find it difficult to move and Joseph will not change the face of the free market. At this point, Carr is the only real seeker, and do not be fooled by Gruden's praise. He praises everyone while working hard to move each one of them. He saw all of us early enough, but he did not beat us much. Sunday was just another example of why his biggest job as a franchise representative was to ensure that I-15 was properly resurfaced for this last road trip.
