NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) –

A bus crashed into cars and then struck on Sunday the central division of Highway 405 in the North Hills area, creating a massive backup and returning more than two dozen people to the hospital. .

At one point, both directions of the highway were closed near Nordhoff Street as authorities worked to treat patients and clean up the wreckage.

Northbound lanes were reopened, but debris allowed slow traffic. Southbound lanes remained closed for hours after 13 hours. crash.

Firefighters estimated about 40 people for injuries after the accident. Of these, five were in critical condition and 20 were sent to the hospital with a range of mild to moderate injuries.

The accident involved a private bus carrying 37 passengers for a religious event at the Forum in Inglewood. Other buses also cared for the event but were not involved in the accident.

According to the authorities, the bus collided with cars on the north side and then crossed the central median and hit cars in the southbound lanes.

Southbound lanes were closed on Nordhoff Street as the CHP was working to divert traffic from the area.

The CHP stated that a Sigalert was in place for an unknown duration.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
