KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is pleased to be sworn in as the new MP for Port Dickson, saying that his return to Parliament is a justification against all the allegations made to him in the past.

Addressing reporters at his first press conference as MP for Port Dickson, Anwar said he had been deprived of his right to participate in politics because of his previous term of imprisonment. Imprisonment, referring to the infamous cases of Sodomy I and Sodomy II.

"Whenever I was sent to jail, I was fired and I had no way to appeal to a just court or to be tried fairly.

"But now I feel justified … but then, I share the pride of the people of Port Dickson for their wisdom," he said Monday (October 15).

Anwar said his first priority, after returning to the August House, was to assist Pakatan Harapan's government in implementing parliamentary reforms, which were part of the coalition's election manifesto.

"In the past, our Parliament was considered a buffer. MEPs would debate, but of course they would only approve what was decided.

"But in Pakatan's manifesto, we took a new approach to making Parliament more effective through the formation of small committees or various discussions," he added.

Anwar also said that the Cabinet and the Prime Minister had endorsed his plans to implement parliamentary reforms.

"They gave the go-ahead on the basis of the manifesto and I had a lengthy deliberation with Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on how to make Parliament effective, serve constituencies and the nation in general," he said. -he declares.

The elected president of the PKR, aged 71, also said that he was happy to sit next to the deputy of Iskandar Puteri, Siang Lim Kit, saying that it was a nostalgic moment to meet both in the opposition before the May 9th polls.

"When I was a member of Permatang Pauh, at the time of the opposition, I was sitting next to him," he said.

Anwar added that he would hold a meeting with de facto law minister Datuk Liew Vui Keong and chairman Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof on his parliamentary reform plans.

Anwar won the Port Dickson by-election with a 23,560 majority in a fight seven blocks away on Oct. 13.
