KUALA LUMPUR: The new elected president of PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, newly elected MP for Port Dickson, reiterated that he had no plans to sit in cabinet at the moment.

When asked when he was staring at a particular position in the Cabinet, Anwar joked, "Are you proposing a person for me now? If you do, I can consider it."

"No, I'm sticking with my previous decision not to hold a position, I'm happy with this position," he told a press conference in Parliament on Monday.

At the same time, Anwar said that plans to make him the eighth prime minister were not a priority at the moment because Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad needed a space to lead the government.

"I do not think it's a concern, I've repeated it, let him have the latitude and the latitude to continue to lead (the government) without being affected by time or pressure constraints. .

"This is very important because Dr. Mahathir and the Cabinet must make some fundamental decisions," he said.

Anwar said these decisions concern government policies and aim to reverse the erroneous decisions of the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

"For that, we would need full and unequivocal support from Pakatan Harapan, and that includes my part," he added.

Anwar, expressing gratitude to Dr. Mahathir who had decided to campaign alongside him in the recently concluded Port Dickson polls, considered the 93-year-old's energy as extraordinary.

"That's why, in my first victory (by-election), I'm one of the first to tell Dr. Mahathir this good news.

"Even just now, before taking the oath of MP for Port Dickson, I also managed to tell Dr. Mahathir that my job was to keep the government stable and strong under his direction. . "

At the same time, Anwar also stated that he had no intention of being the chief whip (of PKR) or the head of the Pakatan coalition's backbenchers. .

"I just want to be the supporter of the chief whip, it's more relaxing, I can meet whoever I want and I can say what I want.

"Official positions will only be a challenge," he said.

According to Pakatan's manifesto, following the consensus reached by DAP, PKR, the Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Party and the Amanah Negara Party, Anwar will be appointed prime minister two years from now.
