A Missouri white woman who was trying to prevent a black man from entering her apartment was fired by her employer Sunday after a video of the incident became viral.
D'Arreion Toles told CBS affiliate KMOV 4 that he was returning home from his loft in downtown St. Louis, when the woman created a roadblock, refusing to let him pass.
In incident videos uploaded to Facebook, Toles repeatedly asks the woman to "move on please". She refuses, telling her that she is "uncomfortable" before continuing to follow him in an elevator then to his door.
Tribeca Luxury Apartments, the woman's employer, issued a statement Sunday in which she called the incident "troubling".
"The Tribeca-STL family is a minority business that includes employees and residents from many racial backgrounds," he said. "We are proud of this fact and do not defend or defend racism or racial profiling in our company. After a review of the file, the employee was fired and no longer part of our company. "
Toles said that the saddest point about this incident is that it's "something that breeds in America". He also told KMOV 4 that he wished the woman "the best of luck" and "would still have a conversation with her."
"I'm not mad at her. I am not angry with her. I will not pursue it legally or anything like that, "he said.
