BOROUGH PARK, Brooklyn (WABC) –
Police said a bookman driver had beaten a 62-year-old man while he was going to the synagogue Sunday morning in Brooklyn.
Healed physically and emotionally, Lipa Schwartz described the scary moment when he was attacked in broad daylight in the middle of the street in Borough Park.
"Suddenly!" I tried to protect myself, run away, I fell, he came back on me, "Schwartz said.
Schwartz went to the service, which he attends every day, when he stated that the driver had jumped off his taxi and had begun to attack him. The brutal beatings occurred on 13th Ave on 46th Street. The sacred objects of the victim were scattered on the ground.

Another member of the Hassidic community tried to help him – the attacker then proceeded.
An arrest was made quickly on the scene. According to Eyewitness News, Farrukh Afzal, of Staten Island, went to Brooklyn for a car and was arrested several times.
Schwartz says that Afzal shouted "Allah" during the assault.
"I went to see him when he was handcuffed. What did I do to try to murder him? Tell me. He did not answer, "added Schwartz.
Schwartz says that he has no idea why the man attacked him, but he thinks it is because he is Jewish.
Initially, the detectives investigated the incident, suggesting a possible driving rage between the victim and the driver.
Police say hate crime charges can be laid.
The car service where he was working informed Eyewitness News that he had been released since.
The TLC issued a statement in which it stated: "The driver does not have a driver's license and has already been summoned by him for driving without a license a vehicle without a license and being a license-free operator."
