Aaron Hernandez was sexually abused as a child and had a relationship with a high school teammate: report

The first installment of a series of six-episode investigations from The Boston Globe claims that the former tight New England Patriots member, Aaron Hernandez, was sexually assaulted while he was a boy . The journal's famed "Spotlight" investigative team investigated Hernandez's life from birth to death in prison.

Hernandez was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a friend, Odin Lloyd, in 2013. To help "with interviews, thousands of court and government documents, SMS, emails and images sent by Hernandez "and nearly 300 phone calls received by Hernandez in a Massachusetts jail, the Globe revealed secrets about Hernandez's life that revealed a tumultuous childhood including sexual abuse, addiction and questions about her sexuality.

• Hernandez and his brother, Jonathan, were often beaten by their father, Dennis, as they grew up in Bristol, Connecticut. The beatings were sometimes related to the fact that Dennis Hernandez had been drinking.

• Aaron Hernandez started smoking marijuana in high school with a teammate before school, before football training and after games.

• His team mate, Dennis SanSoucie, told The Globe that he had sex with Hernandez in high school and high school and that both men had tried to hide it.

• Jonathan Hernandez told The Globe that Aaron Hernandez had later revealed in his adult life that he had been assaulted in his childhood. One of Aaron's lawyers in his criminal case also said that Aaron had told him about sexual abuse during his childhood. Neither was willing to identify the author at the Globe.

• Aaron Hernandez was close to his cousin, Tanya Singleton, and he was broken when he learned that his mother, Terri, had a serious romantic relationship with Singleton's husband, Jeff Cummings.

On April 17, 2017, Hernandez was found not guilty of two counts of murder. Hernandez had been accused of killing two men during a car shootout five years earlier in front of a Boston disco. On the same day, Hernandez was found not guilty. Author Michele McPhee participated in "The Kirk & Callahan Show" to talk about her new book "Maximum Harm", reminiscent of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The hosts and McPhee began to discuss a possible motive behind Hernandez's assassination of long-time friend Lloyd.

"This rumor," said Callahan on the air, "This rumor of Aaron Hernandez, who is so juicy … it's big."

"It's something we can certainly play with over the days," said Minihane. "I'm not sure Michele is comfortable talking about it."

The organizers and McPhee started joking about Hernandez's sexuality and the rumors they had heard, calling him a "close end" and a "wide receiver," the New Yorker reports.

Two days later, Hernandez was found dead hanging on a bed sheet in his cell. He scribbled Bible verse John 3:16 on his forehead and the walls of his blood cell.
