Can a moon have a moon?
It seems like the question of a precocious kindergarten or a smashed student may have thought about a moment in their lives.
But it's actually a question posed by serious scientists.
Juna Kollmeier at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, California, and Sean Raymond at the University of Bordeaux recently released a study on the possibility of a moon.
Their findings suggest that, in most cases, the tidal forces would attract the small moon to the great moon, destroying both of them. However, they believe that a small baby moon of about 6 miles in diameter or less could gravitate around a larger moon.
Researchers believe that four planets in our solar system, including Earth, have moons large enough to support a smaller moon in orbit.
The problem is, if one of these moons is discovered, what do we call it? "" AIU [International Astronomical Union] will have to decide! "said Kollmeier at Quartz.
Raymond and Kollmeier have some names that they approve:
Submoons – boring!
Moonitos – This looks like a late menu item from Taco Bell.
Moonettes – Just because it's smaller, why does it make a woman? Huh?
Moooons – How do you pronounce that? Like a cow?
But the best, by far, must be the moon.
Moonmoon looks like something you call a loved one or a pet. Or, possibly, a honeymoon in a honeymoon. "We went to Honolulu, but it was quite hectic and we took a break in Kuai, you know, for a little moon."
If Twitter was allowed to name the moon that gravitates around a moon, Moonmoon would win in a landslide.
How much moon could a moon moon if a moon moon could moon moon https://t.co/wuw8OHG8ax

If you ask me, this is "Submoons" (hence the title of our article !!!). But the Internet has brought a wide variety of names and associated joy and for that I am delighted: Moonette, Moonlet, Grandmoon, Metamoon …#letsasklevi
