Director Bryan Singer on Monday posted a statement on Instagram before the release of an upcoming article on Esquire, saying the report "would resume false accusations" and would be scheduled for the release of Freddie Mercury's biopic, "Bohemian Rhapsody." ".
Esquire did not respond to a Business Insider comment request.
Singer wrote that he had known for "some time" that Esquire might publish a "negative" article on him and that the publication had contacted his friends and colleagues.
"In today's climate, where mere accusations are hurting people's careers, Esquire is trying to carelessly abstract the truth and formulate fictitious and irresponsible assumptions," Singer wrote. "This article will try to rehash false accusations and false trials."
Singer faces a lawsuit that claims to have sexually assaulted a 17 year old teenager at a party on a yacht in 2003.
The singer added, "Incidentally, this article was synchronized with the release of my movie," Bohemian Rhapsody. "I am immensely proud of this movie and all the people involved."
Singer did most of the film, which will be released in theaters on November 2, but was replaced late in production by Dexter Fletcher because Singer was repeatedly absent from the set. Singer will always receive the only director credit, as the rules of the Directors Guild of America require that a film be composed only of a director or a team of directors.
