The two men seen in a surveillance video attacking an employee of a Roseville bowling alley are in police custody, authorities said Monday.
In a press release, the police said that a suspect – who allegedly threw a bowling ball on the worker's head – would have been placed in custody by another police department under unrelated charges. The second suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested by Roseville detectives without incident in a house in the nearby town of Eastpointe.
The alleged shotgun suspect was identified as Branden Moore, 31, of Clinton Township. He was arrested Monday before Judge Joseph Boedeker of the 39th District, for assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm less than the murder and for violating a crime report. Both are 10-year crimes. The bond was set at $ 250,000.
"Roseville (police department) would like to thank the people who called the police and provided the identity of the suspect who attacked the victim with a bowling ball," said Deputy Chief of Police Donald Glandon in the release .
Police on Friday released a surveillance video of the brutal bowling attack located at Gratiot Avenue, north of 12 Mile Road, about a block away from the police station. In addition to being hit on the head with the bowling ball, the employee was beaten, kicked and given a bar stool.
The investigators said that the fight broke out when a group of bowlers were invited to leave the bowling at about 23:45. last Wednesday after they would have become unruly and would have created a disruption.
Several of the bowlers surrounded the counter where the employee was standing.
The video of the incident shows the worker shouting at people at the counter and throwing what appears to be money, to customers standing in front of the counter.
One of the suspects went around the counter and repeatedly hit the worker at the head. A second man joined the fray taking a bar stool and throwing it at the worker. One woman seemed to be trying to control the same individual, who then grabbed a blue bowling ball and threw it on the employee's head.
The employee fell to the ground while the two assailants continued to kick him in the head, but he was then able to get up when they left. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Apollo Lanes workers were relieved to learn the arrests.
After watching the videotape of the incident, hundreds of people have called bowling to express their concern about the worker, according to the business owner.
Jerry Iezza, owner of Apollo Lanes and Izzy's Bar & Grill, says the employee continues to recover from injuries he's suffered, but plans to possibly return to work.
"He's fine," Iezza said of the 28-year-old counter worker in Roseville. "He was in the hospital, but he's getting better now."
Iezza declined to comment on other details of the incident, such as what triggered the argument that escalated into violence, until the police had completed his investigation.
"I mean, it has become national, we have literally received calls from everywhere, people have told us how sorry they are," he said.
The victim is at home recovering from his injuries, the police said.
Glandon said that the employee was "extremely lucky, just lucky" that he was not seriously injured.
"It looks like the ball hit it on an angle that did not cause significant damage," said the deputy chief.
Moore is scheduled to appear in the Roseville District Court at 8:15 am on October 24. The second suspect has not yet been charged. Glandon said the documents must be authorized before they can be brought to justice.
