HOUSTON – If Alex Bregman was trying to get a lift from the Boston Red Sox, it was not working.
On Monday, Houston's third baseman posted a video on his Instagram account showing that the Astros scored consecutive goals at Minute Maid Park against Nathan Eovaldi, along with the caption "Pre-match lil video work". Bregman hit the second of three runs against Eovaldi, who was playing for the Tampa Bay Rays at the time.
Eovaldi was traded to Boston in July and is expected to begin the third game of the AHL championship series in Houston on Tuesday.
On Monday afternoon, Eovaldi said that he had not seen the video, but that he was aware of it and was trying to stay focused on the task at hand.
"I still have a job to do," he said. "I have to go and play my game tomorrow and I can not have any distractions."
Like Eovaldi, Alex Cora, the coach of the Red Sox, claimed that he had not seen Bregman 's post. Cora added that with the best of seven tied series, he did not think his players would need additional incentives.
"If you need motivation in the third match of the ALCS, you'd better check yourself," said the freshman skipper. Bregman's message is simply the latest episode of out-of-field antics that Cora and the Red Socks have endured.
