Representative Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) said Monday he would not share the $ 38 million his campaign raised in the third quarter of the year with other Democratic candidates in the Senate.
"No," O'Rourke told a reporter who asked him if he would share the funds with candidates for tighter races, according to the Washington Examiner.
"I'm focusing on Texas, most of our contributions come from Texas, all from people, not a penny from PAC," he said.
O & # 39; Rourke added that he honored "the commitment that those who contributed to this campaign have taken me."
"If they want to contribute to someone else, they should do it.So they want to contribute to a campaign that will win this historic victory for Texas and the country, so I I'm grateful for the contribution and I'm going to make the best of it, that's what we're focusing on, "he said.
A spokesperson for O'Rourke's campaign confirmed to The Hill that O'Rourke was not planning to share the funds.
"These elections have always focused on Texas and have borne fruit in each of the 254 counties we have visited in the last 18 months," said the spokesman.
O 'Rourke's comments come after the New York Times reported that the fundraising of the latter had created tension within the Democratic Party, with some saying O Rourke should share the funds. with candidates better placed to win.
Recent polls have shown that O & # Rourke was lagging behind his Republican opponent, Sen. Ted Cruz (R), nine percentage points ahead of next month's elections.
O'Rourke announced Friday that he has raised more than $ 38 million in the third quarter of the year, with more than 800,000 contributions.
"This will give us the resources to carry out this campaign as hard as possible," O'Rourke said last week. "We are doing something absolutely historic."
