Police are investigating a report that a high school student in Davis allegedly brought cookies to school with his grandmother's ashes and distributed them.

Davis police told CBS 13 that nine sugar cookies had been distributed to at least nine students. The number of people eating supposedly contaminated treats has not been determined. Nobody was apparently ill or physically abused, said Lieutenant Paul Doroshov.

A high school student at the Da Vinci Charter Academy told FOX40 that a classmate had made the cookies two weeks ago and had given them to other Da Vinci students.

"This girl tells everyone, basically at this point, that she brought those cookies to school with human ashes," he said. The boy and his family spoke to the station under cover of anonymity, fearing reprisals from the Davis Unified School District.

The boy told Fox40 that the administrators asked him about cookies, made him sign a statement, and then warned him not to tell anyone.

According to Doroshov, cookies have not been tested for human remains. If the willful contamination is confirmed, the police would have determined which crime could be prosecuted.

The Davis Joint Union School District issued a statement in which he stated that he could only comment on confidential matters involving students, but that he was conducting his own investigation.
