KIEV (Reuters) – An American pilot was one of two crew members who died when an air force fighter from the Ukrainian Su-27 crashed during of a training flight on Tuesday, announced the US Army.

"We have seen information reporting a US victim and we can confirm that a member of the US military service was involved in this incident," the group said in a statement, adding that the circumstances of the accident were the subject of an investigation.

The two pilots, one of whom was Ukrainian, were the only ones on board.

The Ukrainian staff said a little earlier that the pilot and the co-pilot had died without giving their nationality.

The accident occurred at Clear Sky 2018, multinational exercises involving military personnel from eight foreign countries, including Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland and Estonia, which have started last week.
