YouTube is down, so I guess we should all fall asleep – BGR

YouTube suffered a widespread blackout on Tuesday night, forcing countless people to find other ways to entertain themselves for at least a few minutes. The exact cause of the outage is unclear, but YouTube's official YouTube support account acknowledged the problem just before 9:45 pm (ET) and said efforts were under way to fix it. No timetable has been given for the resolution, but we will update this post when we know more.

Here's the @TeamYouTube tweet, which is all we have about the crash so far. YouTube's official Twitter page also retweeted this message, but did not add additional details about the problem:

If you visit YouTube.com or any of the YouTube branded apps, including YouTube TV and YouTube Music, you will get a blank page. As you can see on downdetector.com, the entire map is lit, indicating that it is not contained in a specific area. Apparently, no matter where you are, YouTube is not available.

UPDATE | 10/16 to 22:40 ET: YouTube seems to be operational again, but no statement yet. At the very least, he returns to New York and seems to be returning to other regions as well.

UPDATE | 10/16 to 23:00 ET: Official confirmation in the form of a tweet that YouTube is operational:
