Just when you thought the Sixers had completely avoided the Jimmy Butler saga, we are there.
In his season forecast, ESPN's Zach Lowe had this interesting nugget on Butler and the Sixers.
Philly would be a different story, and Butler has eyes for them, say sources close to the subject. The Sixers showed almost no interest in negotiating for him, sources said.
Thank you but no thanks, Jimmy.
I have written more than once on our site why the Sixers should not be interested in Butler. They clearly need a wing that makes the difference, but Butler is not a three-point sniper, he's playing an isolated ton and will be 30 when his next contract comes into effect. None of this is what the team is looking for.
It has been reported that the Timberwolves have asked Ben Simmons in an exchange for Butler, which is laughable. Butler is an excellent basketball player, but at age 22, we only touched what Simmons can be.
Plus, did you see the shit that Butler recently shot? Minnesota has actually canceled a practice and media availability for a day because of Butler. Is this the type of influence you want on Simmons, Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz? Even if Butler did not pull the same things here, keep in mind that he also had problems with Derrick Rose in Chicago. The drama seemed to follow him.
I understand that the Sixers are looking for another star to push them over, but Butler is not that guy. Would he do better the team right away? Of course, but unless Minnesota betrays it, they are not, that does not interest me.
