A UNH study shows that ticks kill more moose calves than ever before

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) Researchers say ticks kill moose at an alarming rate.

A study from the University of New Hampshire indicates that areas like western Maine are experiencing an unusual and continuing increase in ticks in winter.

They say that the parasite is the leading cause of an unprecedented mortality rate of 70% of moose calves over a three year period.

According to research, ticks also affect the reproductive health of moose. There is less reproduction.
