NFL game, fantastic news: Tannehill (shoulder) out Sunday

UPDATE (2:21 PM): Ryan Tannehill will not play Sunday against the Lions, Adam Gase announced at Wednesday's press conference.

The Dolphins submitted Tannehill to a limited practice on Wednesday, but did not attempt any passes.

"He just can not run for the moment," said Gase.

The Dolphins then specified that Tannehill could launch if he had to.

Brock Osweiler will start instead of Tannehill.

Gase reiterated that he thought Tannehill would return at some point in 2018 and that the quarter had not suffered a setback in the last two days.

Gase did not rule out Tannehill playing against the Texans in eight days, but said it was too early to find out.

All eyes were on quarterback Ryan Tannehill as the Dolphins returned to practice on Wednesday.

This is what the assembled media saw during the game that they were allowed to watch:

Tannehill, injured shoulder to shoulder, dressed and worked, but did not throw a pass.

He participated in transfer exercises, but when representatives followed one another, he hung on the ball after falling.

The dolphins hope that Tannehill will heal with rest and continue to monitor his progress throughout the week.

With Tannehill Limited, Brock Osweiler had to call on the first team. The Dolphins will make Osweiler available to reporters Wednesday, but not to Tannehill.

This is only the beginning of a new day.

▪ Defensive end Cameron Wake and cornerback Bobby McCain both trained after missing the last two games. McCain should play Sunday against the Lions. It is believed that Wake worked for the first time since her arthroscopic knee surgery.

▪ Defensive end Jonathan Woodard (concussion) and Charles Harris (calf) both missed training, questioning their availability for the Lions game. Receiver Danny Amendola was also absent Wednesday, his normal day off for veteran.

▪ The Dolphins have chosen their two players returning to the IR for the season: linebacker Mike Hull and offensive lineman Jake Brendel. Both practiced on Wednesday, the first day allowed by the league. They must miss the next two games but are available to play after. By designating these two players to return, the Dolphins have ensured that all other players on the injured reserve – including linebacker Chase Allen, on this list Wednesday – will not play this season.
