Members of the public are invited to celebrate the Observe the Moon International Night on October 20th from 7 to 9 pm. This free NASA @ My Library event will take place at Roger Eaton Football Fields, 300 blocks from North Main in Chadron.

International Observe The Moon Night is an annual global public event that encourages observing, appreciating and understanding our Moon and its links with NASA's planetary science and exploration. This annual event brings together scientists, educators and lunar enthusiasts from around the world. The Sky Watch program organized by the Chadron Public Library is one of the 156 events and registered participants worldwide for 2018. International Observe the Night is sponsored by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Mission to The NASA. LRO is managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, to lead the science mission at NASA's headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Chadron Public Library and the Black Hills Astronomical Society will have telescopes on the football field, offering a guided tour of the Moon, planets and other celestial objects to visitors. Come dressed for the weather and please note that the facilities in the fields will be closed for the winter.

The Chadron Public Library is one of the 75 partners of NASA @ My Library and will continue this program for one year. As a program partner, the library has a telescope that can be used in future library programs. Such a program will take place on October 27 at 1:30 pm. Arjun Ayyungar, ambassador for NASA Solar System, will present "Get to know our neighbor". After the presentation, the library staff will host a special activity.
