EBay (EBAY) says online retail giant Amazon (AMZN) has deployed a ploy to recruit eBay's "high-value" sellers to Amazon, in a California lawsuit filed Wednesday ahead of a Silicon Valley court.
The lawsuit alleges that Amazon's representatives have made fraudulent contacts with eBay sellers, in the United States and abroad, through eBay's proprietary M2M messaging system.
According to the complaint, Amazon representatives would have created eBay member accounts to bypass eBay's message monitoring systems, using unconventional formats for e-mail addresses and phone numbers.

EBay says some of the Amazon representatives who have made contact with eBay sellers have qualified as "hunters / recruiters".
The messaging system allows eBay buyers and sellers to communicate electronically, although the Company's User Agreement Policy prohibits parties from using it to offer, reference or request contact information . It also prohibits buyers and sellers from establishing a contact regarding the purchase or sale outside of eBay.
Offers to buy or sell outside of its platform, says eBay, present a risk of fraud and may signal an attempt to avoid eBay fees.

EBay, in its five-count complaint, alleges that Amazon deliberately interfered in eBay's contractual and economic relations, perpetuated fraudulent activities within the company and violated the criminal codes and lawsuits. of California. The online marketplace indicates that two weeks before the filing of the complaint, he had sent a letter of termination and abandonment to Amazon.
The company is seeking a jury trial and is demanding the cessation of the allegedly fraudulent activity, as well as monetary and punitive damages.
