The first of the new season of Excellent chef in less than 8 weeks – and we have an exclusive overview of what's ahead this season
The 16th season takes place in Kentucky and includes host Padma Lakshmi, Chief Judges Tom Colicchio, Graham Elliot and Nilou Motamed, while Gail Simmons will make fewer appearances due to a maternity leave.
This winter, 15 cheftestants compete for the coveted title from cities across the country such as Philadelphia, Miami Beach, Boston and Brooklyn.
A competitor, who comes from Bluegrass State, said on camera in the preview clip: "I am the daughter of Kentucky. I would like to win for my state. "

The season seems to have a lot of ups and downs, and Lakshmi announces that there will not be two, but three restaurants competing in this year's famous Restaurant Wars Challenge – an unprecedented event.
The invited judges include Dear whitesLena Waithe, chef Emeril Lagasse and country singer Hunter Hayes.

Simmons makes a special webcam appearance showing her growing baby belly: "I'm literally days away," she says. Canadian chef and husband Jeremy Abrams welcomed son Kole Jack Abrams on May 23rd.

In February, Bravo announced that the new season would be held in Kentucky for the first time.
"We are always looking for new culinary destinations and look forward to planting our flag in Kentucky and permeating a diverse region of the country we have not explored yet. "Kentucky has a strong food identity and we know our new chefs will take inspiration from the burgeoning culinary scene, known for its innovative approaches to Southern cuisine, its fusion of flavors and the use of Kentucky's agricultural riches.
