Speaking ahead of the Austin weekend, Vettel was clear that Ferrari needed to deliver an uplift in pace if it was to any hope of taking over the fight to Mercedes.
"It's pretty clear, we need to do it," he said. "In the last races we did not have the speed.
"Obviously we were missing something in the last couple of races, we definitely did not have the speed to be there. We need to make sure that the next couple of races show us the direction and we get the results I think we deserve. "
