The revenge between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman has collapsed once more.
Rockhold (16-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC), who had to face his former champion Weidman (14-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) in the co-headliner UFC 230 next month, was forced to withdraw from card because of an injury. MMAjunkie checked the news with someone close to the situation following a first report from ESPN.com. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has not yet made an official statement.
UFC 230 will take place Nov. 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card is broadcast a la carte after the preliminary matches of FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The injury of Rockhold, number 4 in the latest US TODAY Sports / MMAjunkie middleweight standings in the United States, marks the second time that a rematch with Weidman, ranked fifth, is canceled. After taking Weidman's belt with a third-round TKO at UFC 194 in December 2016, the duo had to return to UFC 199 in June 2016. Weidman was forced to retire because of 39, an injury and Rockhold then dropped belt to late replacement Michael Bisping.
ESPN.com Rockhold injured his leg, but it is unclear whether he is expected to return. The UFC would be looking for a replacement to fight Weidman on the map, Ronaldo Souza being one of the names mentioned.
In addition to the withdrawal of Rockhold, Newsday.com has announced a new pair of updates to the UFC 230 range. Ben Saunders (22-10-2 MMA, 8-7 UFC) will replace Sultan Aliev against Lyman Good (19-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a welterweight bout on the preliminary part of the card, and a heavy pair between Ruslan Magomedov (14-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Marcos Rogerio de Lima (15-5-1 MMA, 4-3 PDUs) have also been programmed.
