SNELLVILLE, Ga. – Two teenage suspects, one of whom is still wanted by the police, have been charged with the murder of a George policeman killed while he was answering a suspicious vehicle parked near the police station. A college, the authorities said Sunday.

Authorities said they thought Tafahree Maynard, 18, had killed police officer Antwan Toney, a 30-year-old officer who, on Saturday afternoon, was responding to a suspicious vehicle parked near a college. in the Snellville area, Gwinnett County police said in a statement. Maynard remained free on Sunday morning and should be considered armed and dangerous, the police said.

A second suspect, Isaiah Pretlow, 19, was charged with aggravated assault in another incident following Toney's shooting, police said.

The two suspects are from Snellville.

Toney died in the hospital as a result of his injuries, police said. The 30-year-old from southern California, he had been with the Gwinnett County Police Department for almost three years. It was his first job as a policeman.

"People who worked daily with Agent Toney recalled a very jovial man, dedicated to his work and his community," said Gwinnett County Police Chief Butch Ayers.

According to the police, Pretlow drove the vehicle after the shooting, crashed nearby and fled with other occupants. An officer looking in the area later met Pretlow around 3 pm Pretlow pointed a gun at the officer, who fired shots. Pretlow was not hit and escaped into a wooded area. He was placed in custody by the US Marshals around 23:30.

The shooting occurred near Shiloh Middle School, about 40 kilometers northeast of Atlanta. At least one officer fought back.
