Three weeks after the end of the 2018 season, the Cincinnati Reds has chosen David Bell as his 63rd manager in the history of the franchise, the team announced Sunday.

The Reds will present Bell as their manager at a press conference on Monday at 11 am He accepted a three-year contract with a club option for 2022.

Bell, 46, finished his first season as San Francisco Giants Farm Manager. Originally from Cincinnati, third-generation Major Leaguer had a 12-year career. His grandfather, Gus, is in the Reds Hall of Fame and his father, Buddy, is a senior advisor to the organization.

Bell will be part of the fourth father-son duo to hold leadership positions in the history of the MLB. His father was formerly head of the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Royals.

The Reds interviewed at least 12 candidates before choosing Bell. He was one of three candidates, along with Joe Girardi and Brad Ausmus, who received a second interview last week.

Bell would have been a finalist for the Toronto Blue Jays and would have been interviewed by the Texas Rangers.

Prior to joining the Giants' Office, Bell spent five years with the Major League coaching staff. With the St. Louis Cardinals from 2014 to 2017, he was assistant coach in his first season, then became Mike Matheny's bench coach.

Bell was a third base coach with the Chicago Cubs in 2013 among Dale Sveum's staff. Prior to his promotion to the Major League Staff, Bell spent four years leading the Reds organization. He directed Double-A Carolina from 2009-2011 and Triple-A from Louisville in 2012.

The Reds have not reached the playoffs since 2013, finishing the last four seasons with more than 90 losses and one last place in the National Central League. Former manager Bryan Price was fired on April 19, after a season start of 3 to 15.

A product of Moeller High School, Bell led the school to a state baseball championship in 1989. He was selected in the seventh round by the Cleveland Indians in 1990 and competed in the 2002 World Series with the Giants.
